Week 16

Porches are in

What a difference these make to the feel of the house. It is anchored back to the ground. These pictures were taken during layout review where we explored various options for corners, transitions, and relationships to posts etc.

Unfortunately we found more dry rot. The upstairs deck and rail were completely rotted out due to improper drainage and flashing dating back to the original second story addition. Fortunately, the last remaining beam (behind the shingles), which is holding up the front of the house, was still intact. The railing will get rebuilt similar to the original, but will have to be a bit taller due to the current building code requirements.

This is the rubble pile from the old second story deck. It had something like 4" of mortar creating a crazy heavy deck.

Street Work

Coincidentally, Kingsley Avenue is getting resurfaced.  We tried to coordinate timing with the City, but couldn't. After the new asphalt goes in, we're going to cut it up for new underground piping.
